Height safety inspections
Your gear failed its inspection. What happens now?
Nothing goes back in the truck. The item is tagged out of service on the spot, logged so it cannot quietly come back into use, and you get a straight answer on whether it can be repaired or has to be replaced.
What happens on the day
- It is tagged out of service, there and then. A failed item gets a physical tag before we move on to the next one. Nobody has to remember, and nobody has to take our word for it later.
- It is recorded against your register. The fail goes into your online asset register with the reason and a photo of the defect. That is what stops a condemned harness turning up on a job in three weeks.
- We tell you why. Not just "failed". The actual reason: cut webbing, a seized buckle, a date of manufacture past its service life, a shock absorber that has been triggered.
- You get a straight answer on repair or replace. Some things are repairable and some are not, and we will not pretend otherwise to sell you a repair.
- It comes off your compliance count. Your register and your certificates reflect what you actually have in service, not what you had before the visit.
Repair or replace
Ladders, portable scaffold, eyewash stations and spill kits can usually be repaired or restocked. A bent rung, a seized castor, a blocked eyewash head, a kit that has been raided. We charge $80 + GST an hour for repairs, and we re-inspect and re-tag anything we repair before it goes back into service.
Soft fall arrest gear is different. A harness, lanyard or rope with cut or frayed webbing, chemical damage or a triggered shock absorber is finished. There is no repair for it and anyone offering you one is doing you no favours. The same goes for anything past the date of manufacture its maker set.
Either way, you are not left short. We supply replacement height safety equipment, so a crew is not stood down waiting for a harness to arrive.
Why "no charge for a failed inspection" matters
The quiet worry behind this whole question is whether you are about to be charged for bad news. You are not.
It also removes the only reason an inspector would ever have to be soft on a borderline item. We have nothing to gain from passing something that should fail, and nothing to lose from failing it. That is the point of using someone whose job is the inspection rather than the sale.
